Spring is here… Time to walk for your mind.
Spring has finally sprung. Well for me it has. I know there are other places that still have snow or are just beginning to start their winter season. But for me, in Iowa, it is Springtime. That has a special meaning for me. It is a time that I can not only exercise my body, I can also exercise and clear my mind. It is so important to open windows in the house to air it out. That allows your house to breath and clear out odors that have set into the house with all the windows shut tight in the Winter.
But our minds need the same Spring cleaning as does our home. Winter time left us stuck in the house and unable to get out as much as Spring. Thoughts and memories and discussions have built up inside of us and we need to cleanse them from our minds. Imagine if you will a Lake and all of it’s surroundings. the trees reaching for the sunshine and the grass we walk on turning from that ugly brown to a beautiful green. The sun reflects off of the water and blue now colors the once dull color of the lake. A gentle breeze is blowing through the trees and the smell of new flowers is filling the air. Birds are singing their songs and filling your ears with beautiful music. These are the things I see and here as I walk through the forest and look at the Lake.
All of those things help to clear our minds of the daily tasks we performed and of the winter long thoughts that sometimes took us down. Just being able to spend time out-doors is a cleansing of our minds. You can lose yourself in the beauty of nature. Letting go of the stress and that feeling of “cabin fever” does so much for our attitude and our health. Some of the depression flows out of us and we feel now “Liberated.” Look at the pictures and imagine yourself there. Everything bthat is in your mind, let it flow out and simply transfer yourself to the beauty that nature is bestowing upon us. It’s many colors, red and yellow and purple and green brightening up our world. the leaves opening, the wind singing to us as it whistles through the leaves.
Spring-time really does bring with it a new lease on living. It takes our attitude from down and wanting to alive and breathing in fresh air and fresh thoughts. This is walking for your mental health as much as or your body. Take a walk and see if you don’t come home with a new outlook on life. Spring is here… breath it in and enjoy it. Darrel
